The compendium is a collection of edible plants, fruits, nuts which are known to grow in the local soil and weather conditions without undue requirements for additional maintenance, protection, water or fertiliser. These are plants and varieties particularly suited for soils and conditions prevalent in the valleys surrounding Murchison, New Zealand particularly the following areas:
